Understanding your result
Immigration programs read your TEF Canada result as four independent NCLC levels, not a total. A profile with 320/450 writing but 200/360 listening is an NCLC 5 profile, because the weakest skill governs. That's why the calculator highlights your lowest skill — it's the one to train next, and our practice modules are built around exactly that loop: test, find the weak skill, drill it, re-test.

Frequently asked questions
How is the TEF Canada scored?
Each section has its own scale: Reading /300, Listening /360, Writing /450, Speaking /450. There is no single overall score for immigration — each skill converts to its own NCLC level, and your weakest skill sets your usable level.
What score do I need for 50 CRS points?
NCLC 7 in all four French skills (with CLB 5+ in English) earns up to 50 additional CRS points. NCLC 7 means roughly Reading 207/300, Listening 249/360, Writing 310/450, Speaking 310/450.
Is a higher score than NCLC 7 worth it?
Yes — first-official-language points rise sharply at CLB 9 and again at CLB 10. If French is your first official language, pushing from NCLC 7 to 9 can be worth dozens of CRS points across the four skills.
How long are TEF Canada scores valid?
Two years from the results date, for IRCC purposes. Plan your exam so results stay valid throughout your application.
